Korea eSIM: data, voice/SMS and identity verification
Choose by the task you need: internet maps and messaging, outgoing calls/texts, or identity verification. These are separate capabilities. LG U+ says its data-only service has no SMS verification; voice/SMS can support reservation-app SMS, but banking and government identity verification are not supported. Check your exact provider and plan.

- Check the provider’s supported-device list and whether your phone is carrier-unlocked. An eSIM-compatible model name alone is not enough: regional variants and lock status matter. If unsupported, compare a compatible physical SIM or pocket Wi-Fi rather than buying an unusable eSIM.
- For maps and internet messaging, compare data allowance, duration and activation rules. For outgoing calls or texts, explicitly select a voice/SMS plan and check included credit and top-ups. A displayed Korean number does not by itself prove outgoing calls, SMS codes or identity verification.
- Read installation and refund terms before payment. LG U+’s data eSIM page says no refund after payment and no reissue once installed. Keep the installation instructions and use the provider’s support if setup fails; do not delete an installed eSIM expecting to download it again.

- Does a tourist eSIM unlock bank or government verification?

- Can I add voice later or reinstall a deleted data eSIM?
